Reno Mosquito Extermination
Mosquitoes thrive in warm climates if given a moisture source and feed on human blood. They target and feed on humans by detecting and following our carbon dioxide, tracking our body heat, and detecting human skin scents. Female mosquitoes can feed up to 3 times their body weight and can reproduce by laying eggs in as little as a half-inch of standing water.
We do mosquito treatments by looking for their breeding sites, which can include untended swimming pools, jacuzzis, flowerpots, bird baths, wheelbarrows, or buckets. For our mosquito exterminations, we apply nontoxic and eco-friendly mosquito-killing granules that will prevent dangerous mosquito infestations.

Common Types of Mosquitoes
Of the more than 3,000 known species of mosquitoes worldwide, around 170 are known to thrive in the United States. In the Southwest, the most common types of mosquitoes are house mosquitoes, southern mosquitoes, Asian tiger mosquitoes, yellow fever mosquitoes, anopheles mosquitoes, and aedes mosquitoes. Each of these pests suck human and animal blood and carry diseases.
Health Risks of Mosquito Bites
Through their bites, mosquitoes can transmit and carry numerous infections diseases, which typically are blood-borne illnesses. Mosquitoes will transmit malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, encephalitis, Chikungunya, West Nile Virus, and Zika Virus. Symptoms of West Nile Virus include flu-like symptoms that if left untreated can lead to high fevers, weakness, confusion, and coma. The Zika Virus most commonly causes high fevers, rashes, headaches, joint pain, conjunctivitis, and muscle pain. It is especially risky for the elderly, small children, or pregnant women.
What Mosquitoes Look Like
Mosquitoes are most easily identified by their distinctive long legs. Female mosquitoes have a long proboscis that they use to suck blood out of humans and mammalian pets like cats or dogs. Fully grown adult mosquitoes have a narrow oval-shaped body and are about a quarter-inch long. Most mosquito species in the Reno area are grayish in appearance. They may have iridescent white, silver, blue, or green scales or white stripes across their abdomen.
Mosquito Extermination Services
Mosquito extermination begins with inspecting your property to locate and eliminate all sources of standing water on your property that may be allowing these pests to breed. At Reno Pest Control Proes, we offer these mosquito inspections and will prevent and safely exterminate any mosquitoes that may have gotten onto your property right away!
We recommend two main types of mosquito treatment plans. We are fully licensed and certified to use both of these treatments, which are safe and efficient for mosquito control and removal:
Water Granule Mosquito Treatments
Since mosquitoes thrive in water, we apply safe and ecologically-friendly anti-hatch and larval growth inhibitors. These achieve mosquito extermination goals by preventing mosquito eggs and larvae from developing into adult mosquitoes. Mosquito growth inhibitors are non-toxic and safe for humans and pets. We apply these treatments as granules to water quality systems to achieve prevention goals in standing water environments, such as swimming pools or jacuzzis.
Pesticide Mosquito Treatments
We also apply an organic microbial insecticide to trees, lawns, and outdoor vegetation that kills mosquito eggs to prevent them from hatching. Trees, shrubs, and virtually any backyard or garden plant may become nesting sites for certain species of mosquitoes in Reno. Our insecticides can be applied either as a spray or as a fog, and will kill mosquitoes nesting in your vegetation.
