Reno Ant Extermination
Ants are social insects who live in colonies of workers, drones, and queens, and can thrive in virtually any environment. Over 700 species of ants are common in North America, but only 25 of those species are known to frequently infest homes. Unfortunately, many of these 25 species of ants are common in Nevada.
Ants may gain entry to buildings through faulty door and window seals, where they lay chemical pheromone trails to establish defined routes. Ants may also be accidentally introduced in infested plants, firewood, clothing, furniture, and other items.

Common Types of Ants
The most common pest ants that infest homes in Reno are Argentine Ants, Carpenter Ants, Crazy Ants, Fire Ants, Ghost Ants, Leafcutter Ants, Odorous House Ants, Pavement Ants and Pharoah Ants. While some of these ants live outside and come inside when foraging, others will set up colonies inside your home. Like virtually all ants, these species of ants lay down a chemical pheromone trail to establish routes. These routs connect ant colonies with food and water sources so that other worker ants in the colony can easily help keep the colony well-supplied. Some species of ants are nocturnal, making them especially challenging to spot.
Diseases Spread By Ants
Some types of ants are common transmitters of the microorganisms that cause salmonella, streptococcus, staphylococcus, and clostridium. Because ants are attracted to food, they are common causes of E. coli, shigella, salmonella, and other types of food contamination and spoilage.
What Ants Look Like
Ants come in many colors ranging from pale tan to dark black, and can range in size from 1/20th of an inch to a half-inch. Some ants, such as fire ants, pavement ants, Pharaoh ants, and thief ants can have stingers.
Many homeowners confuse ants for termites, which is easy to do since ants and termites look very much alike. However, unlike termites, ants have noticeable waists, bent or clubbed antennae, longer legs, and front wings that are longer than back wings, if wings are present. Termites, on the other hand, have thick waists, straight antennae, short legs, and front and back wings of similar length.
Ant Control and Extermination Services
Ant extermination begins with following their pheromone trails to locate their resources and colony location. Since ant infestations typically differ depending on the type and species of ant and whether the colony is indoors or outdoors, our attack strategies may differ depending on the type of infestation. Due to our experience in exterminating ant infestations, we know what will work the best on ant control and infestations here in Reno.
Outdoor Ant Colony Treatments
To exterminate outdoor ant colonies, we apply insecticides and baits designed to exterminate entire ant colony populations. We are certified in safe and proper mixing and application of anti-ant pesticide and repellent sprays such as Taurus SC, FUSE, Spectre PS, Spectre 2 SC, Bifen It, and Bifen LP.
Indoor Ant Colony Treatments
To achieve full ant extermination of indoor ant colonies, we may recommend a bait kit, an insecticide spray, or an ant powder. We are certified in the use of the Advance 375A and the Maxforce Fleet Gel bait kits, Spectre PS indoor spray, and D-Fense Dust. Additionally, we have specialized bulb dust application tools to apply D-Fense Dust to colonies living inside walls. This dust can be applied through cracks, wall cavities, or small, patchable holes.
Ant Prevention
Trimming back trees, shrubs, and foliage to avoid contact with your home will reduce the likelihood that foraging ants will enter your home from the outside. Removing mowed grass, leaf piles, stacked wood, and other lawn debris will deny sheltered paths for foraging ants to set up pheromone trails. If you have fruit trees, pick all fruit from trees when ripe and clean up fallen fruit from the ground. Additionally, ensure that any outdoor trash cans or dumpsters on your property are stored far from your home and have a secure, tight-fitting lid.
